Attending the Concert
Finding the Peterhouse Theatre
The Peterhouse Theatre is located to the north of Gisborne Court, in the top right-hand corner of this map. Access is through the Porter's Lodge in Trumpington Street, from where the Theatre is clearly signposted.
The concert hall was built in 1883 to designs by one of the architectural masters of the Victorian era, Basil Champneys (1842-1935), whose other buildings in Cambridge include Newnham College and the Old Divinity School (now part of St John's College). Inspired by Palladio’s Teatro Olimpico at Vicenza (1580-85), the fine acoustics and intimate atmosphere of the Peterhouse Theatre make it the finest venue for chamber music in Cambridge, and one of the top three such venues in the whole country. It is made available for the Camerata Musica concerts by kind permission of the Master and Fellows of Peterhouse.Peterhouse is situated on Trumpington Street in Cambridge City centre. All visitors to the College should report first to the Porter's Lodge located at the main entrance on Trumpington Street. The telephone number for the Porter's Lodge is 01223 338200.
Coats and Bags
Please note that computer cases, large coats, rucksacks, large handbags and other bulky items are not permitted in the auditorium. The Peterhouse Theatre has hangers for coats and other items in the entrance foyer. This area is monitored by a member of the Camerata Musica staff before and during the concert and throughout the interval. Bags may also be left behind the ticket desk, which is manned throughout the evening. All coats and other items left in the foyer are deposited at the owner's risk and Camerata Musica Cambridge cannot accept any responsibility for loss or damage.
Latecomers
Please note that no latecomers will not be admitted after the performance has begun, and they will miss the entirety of the first half of the concert. They may join the concert after the interval.
Interval refreshments
For concerts at West Road Concert Hall, the foyer bar is open for the sale of wine, beer, and other drinks. For concerts at Peterhouse Theatre: during the interval, red and white wine will be served in the Lubbock Room. The price of these drinks is included with the ticket price.
Coughing and disruption of concerts
Because of the small size and exceptionally clear acoustic of the concert hall, any noise made by a member of the audience is highly disruptive to the artists' concentration and to that of the rest of the audience. Any member of the audience suffering from a cold or from any other malady likely to cause coughing is requested to return their tickets and not to attend the concert: a full refund will be provided. The management reserves the right to refuse admittance to any ticket-holder thought likely to cause a disruption to the musical performance, and in such circumstances will refund the full price of the ticket, even when the ticket-holder has heard part of the concert.
Children
Please note that these concerts are generally not suitable for children under the age of 12 years, particularly in the case of performances without an interval.
Recording
The recording of artists' performances on mobile telephones or on any other recording device, even for personal use, is a breach of the artists' copyright and is strictly prohibited. Legal action may be taken against those who record concerts in breach of this ban.
Travel to Cambridge
Arriving by Road
From the M11, take either Junction 11 or 12 and follow into Cambridge City centre (see the Regional Road Links map). Follow the City signs for public parking as parking is not available at Peterhouse. The Cambridge around Peterhouse and the Cambridge University maps show the location of several public parking areas near the College. Parking
Unfortunately parking is not available at Peterhouse. There are numerous car parks in Cambridge centre, near Peterhouse. The closest is Lion Yard and is a five minute walk from the college. A map of Cambridge car parks can be downloaded from: http://www.cambridge.gov.uk/public/maps/CarParks.pdf
Arriving by Rail
The University maintains a schedule of Cambridge to London railway timetables with links to other railway route planners. There are usually two non-stop trains to Cambridge per hour from London King's Cross, and these normally take approximately 45 minutes. From the Railway Station one can either walk (about one mile) or take a taxi to Peterhouse. The Railway Station is shown on the Cambridge around Peterhouse map.
Arriving from Nearby Airports
National Express run frequent services to and from Stansted, Luton, Heathrow and Gatwick airports (telephone 08705 80 80 80). Railway services are also available from Stansted (for more information see National Rail's web site or call National Rail Enquiries on 0345 48 49 50). The University maintains links to more airport information.
Arriving by Coach
The Bus Station is shown on the Cambridge around Peterhouse map and is within walking distance of the College. For information about Coach Services to Cambridge see the University or Cambridge City Council web sites.
Arrival by Private Jet
Patrons arriving by private jet may do so at Cambridge International Airport, which is close to the centre of the city. Further details may be obtained from the Cambridge International Airport.
